Fast Journal : Day 1

Much to my parents' objection, I have decided to try fasting. Starting from Monday until Saturday morning, I will restrict my caloric intake; meaning, I will not be eating any food whatsoever and only consume water. Aside from the spritual focus, I have begun this experiment to evaluate for myself the effects it will have on me physically and mentally. The benefits of a fast are documented and have been the subject of study by neuroscientists in regards to Alzheimers and Parkinsons. The restrictive diet forces the body to stop producing insulin, and enter a ketogenic state, which signals the body to start relying on fat as a source of energy rather than glucose.

It's been a full day of no eating and at this moment, I'm feeling slightly hungry. The feeling of hunger is always worst during the times I usually ate a meal. However, after the alloted time has passed, the feeling fades away. So far, the only negative side effects I feel are a sore jaw. I've yet to decide whether it's sore because it's a result of stress from hunger or if it's from my vexation at the ignorance of those around me. If there is one immediate positive side effect, it's that my breath doesn't smell as bad as it would be if I had eaten. I'm also way less gassy. 2 pros to 1 con.
